For centuries, a border town on the southeastern border of Trentino (first Episcopal Principality and then Austrian Empire), the town of Levico stands in an elevated and sunny position on the left bank of Valsugana, in the area where the valley widens and the Brenta springs from the lakes of Levico and Caldonazzo. Alongside the history and traditions linked to mountain agriculture, which it shares with the majority of the Trentino area, the soul of Levico is linked to the development of spa tourism, which began to take its first steps in the nineteenth century.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

Culture in Levico<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

A place where, next to avenues and parks that take you back to the Belle \u00c9poque and Art Nouveau facades, an attentive eye will recognize the signs of the ancient mills and the terraced vineyards that covered the slopes up to 800 meters. Surrounding the town, on one side the medieval Castel Selva (now in ruins), on the other the late nineteenth-century Forte delle Benne (restored and open to visitors). The construction of the large archpriest church, in a neo-Byzantine style, dates back to the same period. Going up into the mountains, from the Vetriolo side, the spa area, with the source and the establishment, looks in front of it at the “Baiti” area, where the Levicense people practiced mountain agriculture. On the other mountain of Levico, the Vezzena plateau, the sweet pastures where cows graze and doze are dotted with the raw evidence of the First World War, of which some episodes took place here.<\/p>\n

In short, from the finds of the “great history” to the small testimonies of the stories of the men who lived here, in Levico you can breathe the authentic Trentino culture.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

Sunsets to remember<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

There are many vantage points to enjoy breathtaking views. Here the Valsugana opens up welcoming the glittering lakes, beyond which no elevation blocks the gaze, free to admire the jagged peaks of the Brenta Dolomites (the “Sfulmini”, a name that is already a description) silhouetted boldly against the sky light blue.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The Plateau, Alpine Pastures and Forts<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

For the most part on Levico territory, the Vezzena plateau extends over about 2000 hectares, 700 of which are pastureland. Hikes of varying lengths over mostly flat terrain will lead you to discover the traditions of the alpine pastures, but you can also explore the vestiges of the Great War among trenches, forts and battlefields.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>
